Audience/teacher feedback and improvements on first final product draft

Due to the feedback we received from our first final product, we changed the name of our film from 'Mr' Lynch' to 'Hidden' as some people felt that it read as more of a crime drama than a horror/thriller film, so we changed the focus of the title from being focused on the main character which could be wrongly interpreted as Mr Lynch being a detective, to 'Hidden' which makes the genre of the film easier to guess and gives the audience some idea of the story line.

Secondly, the audience also commented on a few lighting problems that they felt we had. For example, at some points the scenes were too dark and the audience couldn't quite make out what was going on, such as in one of the opening scenes where we see a shot of the man's feet walking towards his house. So, we re-shot some of them and replaced the scenes using Final Cut Pro.

Also, we received feedback on the fact that we needed a lot more titles during our film. However, after putting a few more in we have been told that we need to still put some more in so I will do this in the next lesson.

This is much better. Well done. The first shot is particularly impressive. I would recommend adding more titles - as discussed in class but the ones you have are successful. You might want to check your use of sound effects. I know you use music but is it not strange that I cannot hear his footsteps when he is outside etc?

Qustionaire - audience feedback 21/03/14

Today we gave out our questionnaires to our media class and showed classmates our final product. Afterwards, they filled in the questionnaires (as seen below) and we gathered them in before getting feedback from the teacher.
Here are some of our results:

This shows that 12 students felt that the first draft of our final product was a 7-9 out of 10 and 3 students felt it was a 9-10 out of 10.

Well done Ruby. This is a good draft. You have some good shots and ideas. I think the last few shots are disappointing - it becomes comical. There are a few shots that need reshooting because the lighting is problematic. Some of the motion and type of the text is impressive - there should be more though.

Here's a picture of us filming

Update

Today I managed to edit 90% of the film using Final Cut Pro, GarageBand and Motion. All that's left to do now is to edit in the titles/credits tomorrow ready for our deadline.

Update 19/03/14

Last night and the night before we all went to Max's house in the evening to do filming. We have finally finished! So today and tomorrow we are going to be editing our film for our final product due in for tomorrow.

Update 14/03/14

Over the past couple of lessons I have completed the opening titles for our film using Motion and completed it on Final Cut Pro. Last night, we hired out the camera and tripod from school and went to Max's house to begin filming. However, we found issues with lighting and keeping the camera still as we couldn't figure out how to work the tripod and were filming outside in the night-time. So now we've come back into school and asked how to work the tripod and will hire out one of the lights so we can get a clearer picture when filming on Monday.

Update 10/03/14

Last lesson I went onto the apple mac and started making our opening animated credits for our opening sequence. I went onto Motion and looked at the different ways of making 'MR LYNCH' and 'Silverwing productions' animated so we can create the opening that we want. However, I will need to watch the demo on how to use Motion as there are a lot of things on the site that I'm not sure how to use.

MR LYNCH logo 04/03/14

This is a rough idea of what we want the 'Mr Lynch' credit to look like, however we're going to make it an animated opening credit to make it more effective.

Improvements on Rough Cut 04/03/14

One of the criticisms that we recieved was that the horror element didn't come across as we filmed it during daytime, therefore the natural lighting didn't make it scary at all. So we will film at nightime, especially in the very opening scene when Mr Lynch is walking through the alleyway so it will look more like the picture above.

We also need to add one of these openings to the beginning of our film before we go into any scenes, whether it be 20th century fox, universal or monument pictures. However, this does take up quite a bit of time so we will need to be careful on how we're going to fit it in along with our time line.

The 'Dexter' opening theme is also a very good representation of how we want our opening scene to look like (the YouTube clip won't let me embed the link due to disabling of request). It has good conetations of blood, such as when he kills the bug and when he's cutting up fruit, and his face stays blurred out until the very end (however we're going to keep his face blurred throughout).

Audience Feedback for Rough Cut 04/03/14

  • They liked the camera angles that show the power that Mr Lynch, the antagonist character had.
  • The bright natural lighting made the cut look like it wasn't in the genre of horror
  • The audience wanted a close up on the victims face to know who he/she is.
  •  The ending made it seem like too much of a short film and not the opening to a film sequence
  •  The 'Mr Lynch' needs to be put at the beginning of the film and not at the end, again to make it more of an opening sequence.
  •  The beginning is pixalated
